OPPORTUNITIES

The Hesperian Foundation - Publishing for Community Health and Empowerment - offers small grants to help groups around the world adapt the Foundation's books or other women's health information into other media such as radio and street theater. The Foundation also gives away 1,500 books a year to health workers who cannot afford to buy them.

The version in Spanish of Where Women have no Doctor will be published before year's end, and now available in English and in Spanish is A Book for Midwives/Un libro para parteras by Susan Klein.

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance against Defamation (GLAAD) has translated its training manual MediaEssentials into Spanish. The booklet contains plenty of advice on how to get your message across to the media, beginning with the principle that you don´t need a lot of money or a big office to do this - but you do need to invest time, energy and creativity. GLAAD has six offices in the US, its email address is: glaad@glaad.org; Web Page: www.glaad.org

The Global Fund for Women provides financing to help the efforts of women to change their societies, ranging from $500 to $15,000 (US dollars). The Global Fund for Women receives applications for grants in any format - handwritten or done by computer, and in any language, and it revises applications regularly and in a non-bureaucratic fashion.
