Apelo a la Razón. 1983.

This book presents a biting and detailed
critique of positivism, described as technical utilitarism which encloses
itself within a skeptical naturalism, by denying that justice could be
an objective concept and believing that whatever is observed with one’s
eyes is more real than ethics. Positivists have wished to persuade everyone
that moral and human judgment and criteria are not scientific, and thus
are not reliable. Such assertions arise from a deliberate misunderstanding
of the nature of Science. Porfirio Miranda therefore dedicated himself
to analysing and dismantling piece by piece this widely spread misunderstanding.
He demonstrated that scientific truth within any science is measured by
the degree of argumentative rationality with which it is adopted. The primary
truth of ethical judgment, that "the person is an end and not the means"
is demonstrated making clear that this is the condition of possiblitity
for any rational discussion and hence for any science.

Demonstrating his ability as an exegesist, an experienced scientist and a demanding philosopher, in this work José Porfirio Miranda initiates us into the gestation of the fundamental concepts of current thinking.
He demonstrates with rigorous logic the myth of "empirical science", which, having survived for more than 200 years now finds its scientists and intellectuals immersed in a state of confusion. By meticulously examining the basic concepts of various disciplines, he shows how Science must originate from within the same Human Being which produces it and how its objective must be the humanization of the world.
Here he arrives at the greatest discovery
that man has made in his entire history: "that the Spirit is though,
and thus what we call matter is that which does not think" "The Spirit
is not something which is natural, but rather is only that which makes
itself be"
