What is a Reality
Tour?
Reality Tours
give participants the opportunity to travel to other parts of the world to
discover first hand how people live and the challenges that they face. Much of what is portrayed in the mass
media does not give us the “real” picture of life in the majority of the
world. This is an opportunity to
learn about how people from all parts of the world are interconnected, how we
all contribute to global problems and how we can work together to try to solve
some of these problems. This will
be a powerful learning experience that challenges your perceptions and
worldview. Reality Tours are not
designed to provide immediate solutions, but rather to give participants a sense
of what is really happening in other parts of the world with the hope that
participants will take what they learned back to their home communities. Also, in our case, we distribute any
income to a community project or activity, in this case, the women’s cooperative
“Los Zurcos del Maiz” will receive all funds raised through the
program.

CICE is a
non-profit indigenous organization that promotes social and cultural awareness.
The two primary objectives of CICE are to 1) establish a forum for dialogue
among people of different cultures, and to 2) support community projects that
empower people without economic resources to gain self-sufficiency. CICE
supports and creates projects (co-ops) through community involvement, which in
turn trains and employs people with little or no economic resources. Our
training programs are based on our indigenous knowledge and respect to the
