Our beginning:
The grave situation of poverty among the campesinos (countryfolk) and the concern over the deteriorating environment prompted Rogelio Cova Juarez, the founder of Ceduam, to look for "cleaner" and more accessible alternatives to using agrochemicals. With this objective in mind, Rogelio Cova traveled to many Latinoamerican countries in search of successful "organic" farming methods that could be utilized in our country.
In about the middle of the 1960´s, Rogelio traveled to Guatemala where he worked with the inhabitants of Chimaltenango in the area of land and water conservation. Later, he invited the Chimaltenangos to come to Mexico in order to train the campesinos of Tlaxcala in their indigenous farming techniques.
From this experience, a group of these Tlaxcala campesinos initiated an effort to revive various agricultural and medicinal ancestoral practices which would not harm the environment.
About 15 years ago, the group of Tlaxcala campesinos, under the coordination of Rogelio Cova Juarez, began their primary work of developing sustainable agricultural practices within the community of Vicente Guerrero, Tlaxcala.
The overwhelming success of the project in Vicente Guerrero led to Rogelio Cova winning the Global 500 Award in 1989, presented by the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP).
In 1992, Rogelio and the group of sustainable agriculture promoters from Vicente Guerrero formalized the Ceduam organization.
Unfortunately, Rogelio Cova passed away in 1993, but not before leaving us with an important mission of securing environmentally safer and economically better farming and medical practices. We are improving the lives of our people and the health of the environment, now and for the future.
